Happy winter solstice

Winter Solstice, also known as "Winter Festival", "He Dong", one of the 24 solar terms of China, one of the eight solar eclipses, and the summer solstice. The winter solstice begins when the sun reaches 270° of the Yellow River, and it is around December 22 of the annual calendar. It is rumored that the winter solstice in the history of the Zhou Dynasty is the New Year's Day, once a very lively day.

On the winter solstice, the position of the sun directly on the ground reaches the southernmost tip of the year, almost directly to the Tropic of Cancer (23°26' south latitude). The northern hemisphere received the least amount of sunshine on this day, 50% less than the southern hemisphere. The white pelicans in the northern hemisphere are the shortest, and the farther north is the shorter the day.

More common is the custom of eating dumplings in the winter solstice in northern China. As the saying goes: "Winter solstice, eat dumplings." And in the south is to eat dumplings, of course, there are exceptions, such as the winter solstice in Shandong Tengzhou and other places used to call the number nine, the popular custom of drinking mutton soup on the ninth day, meaning to drive out the cold meaning .
